Mater Mothers' First Aid for Babies

Endorsed by leading neonatal critical care specialists and paediatricians the Mater Mothers’ First Aid for Babies course equips parents and carers with first aid skills to give them the confidence to care for their baby in the event of an emergency.

From teaching participants how to identify emergency situations, through to arming them with the practical knowledge and skills needed to respond to and manage common baby injuries and emergencies, the course was developed as a collaborative project between Mater Mothers’ Hospital—one of Australia’s largest maternity providers—and Mater Education and delivered by experienced midwives, neonatal and paediatric nurses.

Key areas of learning include:

  • resuscitation (CPR) for infants and young children
  • choking
  • poisoning
  • burns
  • bleeding
  • fractures
  • allergic reactions
  • respiratory illnesses.
